Recent Project Spotlight: Renew the Zoo

When the Salisbury Zoological Park began in the 1950s, the Salisbury Jaycees were there to help support the project. When the zoo expanded in the late 1960s and early ’70s, the chapter was there again, aiding in fundraising efforts. Now the Jaycees are helping the zoo once again as it attempts to raise $3 million for its “Renew the Zoo” campaign.
Besides simply donating to the cause, the Jaycees have a representative helping to solicit contributions from other area individuals and businesses. The chapter is among several local organizations, including the Arthur W. Perdue and Richard A. Henson foundations, assisting with the project.
Funds raised will help the zoo build new veterinary facilities, needed to maintain its accreditation, and add a new Australia-themed section to the park—yes, kangaroos in Salisbury!—among other capital improvements.
