Everybody loves a parade… including the Salisbury Jaycees! In fact, we love them so much that we’ve held our own each year since 1947.
Celebrating its 65th year this winter, the annual Salisbury Jaycees Christmas Parade, “A Green Christmas,” featured Grand Marshal Stacey Weisner, executive director of the Salisbury Zoological Society. The festive event showcased more than 75 entries including local dignitaries, fire trucks, marching bands, the perennially popular Eastern Correctional Institution float and, of course, Santa Claus, joined by Saul the Salisbury Jaycees Bear!
This year’s winners were:
• Best Marching Band – Washington High School (Wicomico County bands do not compete)
• Best Commercial Entry – Delmarva Shorebirds
• Best Non-Commercial Float – Salisbury Lions Club
• Best Youth Entry – Wicomico Panthers Junior Pee Wee Football
• Best Scout Troop – Cub Scout Pack 478
• Best Fire Department – Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company
• Best Motorized Unit – Stay Ready Ryderz
• Best Animal Unit – The Lone Ranger
• Best Marching Unit – Wicomico High School Junior ROTC
Missed the parade? Don’t worry! Jaycees Chairperson of the Board David Engelhardt and One on One host Phil Tilghman present a televised version on PAC 14 (Comcast channel 14 in Salisbury) as Christmas approaches. Visit www.pac14.org for schedule information and streaming video.
