Management Developement
Embodying the line of the Jaycee Creed which states "Government should be of laws rather than of men," this area develops the managerial skill of the individual member at all levels of the organization. Programming in this area would encompass any program or project that enhances a member's management skills.
Management Development
While much of the Jaycees can be fun and games, sometimes you just gotta pay the bills. That’s where the Management Development area comes in. Of course, sometimes these projects can be fun and games, too.
As part of the organization’s annual fundraising efforts, the Salisbury Jaycees assist with concession sales at events including the Wicomico County Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism’s annual Pork in the Park barbecue festival and Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s Salisbury
Festival . Another one of the chapter’s largest annual fundraisers is the Soft Shell Metric Century bike ride, a 100-kilometer tour through the waterfront and woodlands of lower Somerset County that has attracted cyclists throughout the Mid-Atlantic and as far away as California.
Through chapter-run fundraisers, members have the opportunity to learn valuable business skills including how to write a business plan (or “Chairman’s Planning Guide” in Jaycee-speak—the Domino’s Pizza chain actually was founded using one of these), budgeting, employee management and promotions.
Public relations for the chapter also falls under the Management Development area. The chapter’s largest and longest-running PR event, by far, is the annual Salisbury Christmas Parade, founded by the Jaycees in 1947.
The Salisbury Jaycees have won state and national awards for PR projects, including a Maryland Jaycees Project of the Year award for the parade in 2008. That same year, the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce National Awards Committee voted the chapter’s Salisbury 275th anniversary celebration (held in 2007) as the top PR project in the nation.

We Believe...
That faith in God gives
meaning and purpose to human life;
That the brotherhood of man
transcends the sovereignty
of nations;
That economic justice
can best be won
by free men through free enterprise;
That government should be of laws
rather than of men;
That Earth's great treasure
lies in human personality;
And that service to humanity
is the best work of life.
